Migration steps: from preparation to aftercare

As an Atlassian Platinum Solution and Cloud Specialized Partner with years of combined experience, we have successfully delivered numerous Atlassian Cloud migration projects. Now, we’re ready to guide you through your migration journey from start to finish.

We make the cloud migration process transparent and straightforward. Let’s take a look at the steps involved in an Atlassian Cloud transition with us.

1. Initial qualification

Let’s start where we are. First we’ll have a look at your existing environment. How many instances do you have and what do your legal, compliance and security requirements look like?

2. Asses & justify

Now we have cleared the first hurdle. Let’s continue the assessment by diving deeper into your organisation's needs and technical requirements. After this step we will give you an estimation of the time frame and costs.

3. Planning

We will create a plan for the Atlassian Cloud migration progress. All you have to do is review it and (hopefully) accept it.

4. Preparing

It’s time to get prepared. Get rid of obsoleted data, and sort and clean up the current environment. We want to start fresh.

5. Testing

Let’s run some tests. We will create Atlassian Cloud sites for test migrations and your users will access it for testing as well.

6. Migrating

Just sit back and relax. It’s time for us to migrate it all for you. At the end of this step you will have a brand new Atlassian Cloud environment.

7. User acceptance

Let’s dive into the new environment. We want your users to confirm that the new cloud environment functions properly. And if something is missing or needs correction, we will take care of it.

8. Post migration

Voila! The possible migration-related issues are fixed and the Atlassian Cloud migration is done. Now it’s time to focus on how to grow your business. Great news - we can help you with that too. Our experts can develop your Atlassian environment and provide support for all your questions or needs. With our deep knowledge of the ecosystem we can bring even more value to your business, the way you demand.

Let’s talk about your journey

The new generation of potential employees want to work with the latest and greatest. Compared to Data Center, Jira and Confluence Cloud have features and functionalities, like AI, that make us an attractive workplace.

FAQ Atlassian Cloud Migration

The duration of a migration depends on the size of the environment and the associated complexity drivers (defined by the existing requirements and guidelines). For medium-sized environments, the migration usually takes 3 to 6 months. For large, more complex systems, the process can take up to 12 months.

Thanks to Data Residenc, every Atlassian customer can decide where their data is stored. The current options are the US, EU, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Canada, UK, Japan, India, South Korea and Switzerland.

Our Cloud Readiness Assessment is designed to clarify the organisational requirements. These vary from customer to customer. Typically, the larger the organisation, the more complex the requirements. Smaller organisations are often concerned with simpler issues such as selecting a plan, data residency or connecting to an identity provider. Larger organisations are increasingly concerned with IT security, compliance, and regulatory requirements.

Our Migration Readiness Assessment is designed to analyse the customer's environment and make recommendations on what preparations need to be made prior to migration. These vary from customer to customer. These include deleting unnecessary product data (projects, custom fields, domains, users, and groups...), identifying business-critical applications and integrations, and ensuring connectivity between the environment and the cloud.

The management of users and groups has been decoupled from the product in the Atlassian Cloud. This allows administrators to manage product access and group management from a central location.
For customers requiring advanced security features, Atlassian Guard offers user provisioning and single sign-on (SSO) for select identity providers such as Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Okta, or Google.

Atlassian Cloud products offer different plans with different features: Free, Standard, Premium, and Enterprise. Each plan has specific features tailored to the needs of teams and organisations. Here are the main ones:

- Free is only offered to teams of up to 10 users (Jira and Confluence) / 3 agents (Jira Service Management) and is only supported by the Atlassian community. This plan is recommended for first-time users.
- Standard offers up to 250GB of storage and 9-5 support without SLAs and can be used by up to 35,000 users, although it is aimed at small and medium sized growing teams.
- Premium offers unlimited storage, 24/7 support, high availability with SLAs (99.9% uptime) and advanced product features such as Atlassian Intelligence or Advanced Roadmaps. Recommended for medium and large organisations where Atlassian products are central to their business.
- Enterprise offers an unlimited number of cloud sites and products, Atlassian Guard Standard, dedicated 24/7 support with fast response times of up to 30 minutes, and high availability SLAs (99.95% uptime). Recommended for large organisations or those in regulated industries that need a comprehensive package and require higher levels of security.

The Atlassian Cloud Platform offers a comprehensive ecosystem of different products and services aimed at increasing collaboration and productivity in organisations.
It consists of: Jira, Jira Product Discovery, Jira Align, Jira Service Management, Opsgenie, Statuspage, Confluence, Trello, Bitbucket, Compass, Atlassian Guard, Atlas, Rovo and Loom.

Atlassian offers various incentives to existing customers who have a valid Data Centre licence.

The data is transferred to the cloud in encrypted form (‘In Transit’ and ‘At Rest’).

Centralised services located in the US West (Oregon) AWS region are used to upload data to the Atlassian Cloud in a secure and fast manner. The migration data must be processed and configured so that it can reach the target cloud site in the correct format. These are permanently deleted after 30 days.

The Premium and Enterprise levels of Jira, Jira Service Management and Confluence allow the activation of IP Whitelisting. This means that access to these products can only be authorised from certain IP ranges.

We will help you along your Atlassian Cloud migration journey. Reach out to get started.
