Learn about the state of accessibility practices in 2022 from our assessment of 20 European online stores
Our experts have carried out an accessibility assessment on 20 European online stores. The findings indicate that online shops still have a lot to do to improve the accessibility of their services. The average score for online shops’ accessibility was 2.7 out of 5.
From the 20 chosen sites, the best performers were Apple, Ikea, H&M, and John Lewis. We identified common issues with colour, size, as well as payment method. On nine online shops, purchases could not be completed using only a keyboard.
Over the next few years, new legislation based on the European Accessibility Act will regulate e-commerce sites and make some improvements mandatory. This study reveals the current major accessibility challenges for online store users.
